A Swanky Success: Oakmont League's Speakeasy Benefit Dazzles
A heartfelt thank you to all who supported the Oakmont League’s recent benefit, A Swanky Speakeasy. The evening was a vibrant celebration of community spirit, filled with glamour, generosity, and a delightful nod to the Roaring Twenties. Guests embraced the theme in true vintage style, donning flapper dresses, fedoras, and feathers as they stepped back in time for a night to remember. The Speakeasy Lounge quickly became a crowd favorite, offering an exclusive bourbon tasting paired with delectable hors d'oeuvres. Photographer Heather Weir captured the magic of the evening, preserving both polished portraits and lively candid moments. Following the cocktail hour, guests enjoyed an elegant dinner, an energetic round of bingo, a spirited "Raise the Paddle," and a dynamic live auction. One of the most powerful moments of the evening came when newly appointed YWCA CEO Deborah Suh took the stage. Her moving remarks about the YWCA’s critical work in providing safety and shelter to those escaping domestic violence deeply resonated with attendees and inspired an outpouring of generosity during the “Raise the Paddle” segment. The night's momentum was kept high by our charismatic emcee, Sean Van Straatum—Assistant Manager and Food and Beverage Director of Oakmont Country Club—whose trademark enthusiasm brought a spirited energy to the bingo games and beyond. A special highlight was the recognition of our esteemed Oakmont League Honorees, Marlene Hirt and Jeri Clark, who were celebrated for their years of devoted service. Their enduring contributions have helped shape the League’s legacy and continue to inspire all who support our mission. In a time when many nonprofits struggle to meet fundraising goals, we are thrilled to announce that thanks to the dedication of our benefit committee—and the extraordinary generosity of our members and friends—we achieved a remarkable 61% profit, far surpassing our goal of 40%. Proceeds from the evening will generously support the YWCA Women’s Domestic Violence Support Program and Camp Rosie for Girls, as well as Disabled Student Programs and Services at Glendale Community College, GCC Scholarships, and GUSD High School Scholarships. From beginning to end, A Swanky Speakeasy was a glamorous and heartfelt tribute to compassion, connection, and community. Thank you to everyone who helped make the evening an unforgettable success!
